CONISBROUGH Castle
Conisbrough CASTLE
South Yorkshire
Most of the structures on this site date from the 12th century and the keep is still largely intact. Within each floor of the keep, Wavetek installed projection systems designed to be triggered by members of the public. These systems project speaking animated figures onto the castle walls with accompanying audio.
Several challenges required creative solutions during this installation. Fixing to stonework or other original features was not permitted due to the age and heritage of the building. The curved nature of the walls made projection setup critical. There were also high levels of dust and moisture requiring bespoke environmental housings for each projector. Since access to these projectors for maintenance is time consuming, LED laser projectors were used. These projectors do not use a conventional lamp and so remove the requirement for regular lamp changes.
